2. Tension Brewing – as someone who never likes causing conflict or dramatising situations, this was the cheatsheet I needed. It lists over 70 ideas for increasing suspense in a scene.
3. Chapter Charger – sometimes I get caught up in a scene at the sentence level, so I created this simple chart to get an overview of how a scene or a chapter performs in the overall story. It’s also a great excuse for using coloured pencils or highlighters.
4. Monthly Menu – this is the prompt schedule I followed when I was writing my novella in 2 weeks. I just love it for fast writing!
5. Undercurrent Map – The One Page Novel focuses on internal change, and this “map” describes the emotional landscape of each stage, so we don’t get fixated on action alone.
6. Toast of the Town – This one’s really simple, but I had a character who I wanted to feel more real and interesting to me, and I thought the easiest, most straightforward way to accomplish this would be to treat them as a real person, and show them love and attention. So that’s what this worksheet is for.
